Not every published product-safety record is a recall. The official service includes product recalls, product safety reports and broader safety alerts. Read the record type, product identifiers, risk description and stated corrective measures before deciding whether it matches your ladder.
Recall, report or safety alert?
Product recall
A recall concerns a specific product sold in the UK and may require an owner to obtain a replacement, repair or refund. Follow the directions and contact details in the notice.
Product safety report
A product safety report records a specific product for which an authority or business has taken corrective measures other than, or in addition to, a recall.
Product safety alert
An alert can address a product category or sector with a serious risk and request action from businesses, authorities or consumers. It may not identify every affected item by a single model number.
How to match a ladder to an alert
Start with the most specific identifiers. A similar colour or frame shape is not enough to confirm a match. Compare:
- Brand and exact product name
- Model, item or catalogue number
- Batch, barcode or date marking
- Seller or marketplace named
- Product photographs and labels
- Dimensions and ladder type
- Reference number and alert date
- Stated hazard and corrective action
Some online products are relisted under different seller or brand names. If the identifiers are incomplete or the resemblance is only visual, describe it as a possible match rather than a confirmed recalled product.
What to do when your ladder appears to match
- Read the complete official recordCheck the exact identifiers, hazard and action. Do not rely only on a social-media image or copied headline.
- Follow the stated safety actionThis may include stopping use and contacting the retailer or manufacturer. Use the contacts in the official notice.
- Keep proof of your productSave photographs of labels, your order information and any communication about the recall.
- Report a live online listingIf the product still appears for sale, record the listing URL, seller and screenshots. Report it to the marketplace and send the listing signal to FOLO-UP.
A FOLO-UP report records a listing signal for evidence capture and controlled human review. It does not by itself establish that the product is recalled, non-compliant or unsafe.
What if no ladder recall is found?
The absence of a matching published record does not prove that a ladder is safe. A new concern may not yet have been investigated or published, and a search can miss a product whose identifiers differ. If you experienced a credible failure or found a concerning listing, report the facts and evidence.
